Fasting and workout…is it seriously possible?
The decision to fast came to me pretty
quickly and actually out of nowwhere. But it brought one big possible
concern regarding Freeletics: is there a threat of losing muscles?
Afterwards I can give the clear answer: no. My weight didn’t change and
I’m happy about it. To achieve this I followed three rules set up by
myself:
1. Workouts only before sunset (so directly before being able to eat and drink)
I did this in order to supply my body immediately with energy and vitamins after the workout. The thought behind this is that there possibly wasn’t instant access to energy because of the long period of fasting (18 hours a day!). Working out earlier might have caused my body to use my own muscles for energy supply.

2. Additional proteins
In order to keep up the power supply at least the first hours of fasting I ate protein bars before sunrise, besides other food rich in proteins.

3. More sleep
I took a nap of up to two hours after work. The thought was to firstly cover the nightly disruption of sleep (I was up almost one hour, from 3 to 4 AM). Secondly, by doing that I reduced power consumption.

Even though I don’t have a reference experience I think that these three steps helped to keep my weight up.
