RI (Respiratory Infections) Information from Kevin EMG McCurley

THe RI problem is basically NOT cureable...... by the sounds of it....... it sounds VERY, VERY nasty and even if you medicated them it would not guarantee that they would not get it again or spread the disease. The real problem is that is sounds highly contagious and spreads by contact. If one snake has it in a rack system and the animals are cross contaminated then the other snakes will get sick too.

Bleach is a must.... all dishes get bleached....... soaked for a time to kill any bacteria...... if there are any mites they will spread it terribly too! The disease....

Essentially, if anyone has sick snakes they need to go into a different area...away from new healthy snakes. The healthy snakes should not get sick if they are not exposed to the sick ones, mites or any of the cages/fixtures from the sick ones....

It's like you have to start new and work with only the new healthy snakes........ The disease is likely from Africa and VERY, VERY nasty... I have had it and it was terrible to deal with!!!

I do not want to suggest treatment since that may let the keeper think they are cured only later to find his new healthy snakes are getting sick too.

NEVER mix boas around Ball Pythons or Retics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Boas can make other snakes very sick without ever getting sick themselves!!!

I think we need to make sure any new snakes go into a perfect area.... no Mites and no sick snakes...that way they won't get sick. Thats the words from EMG.
